The Next-Generation Network Imperative

Technologies like Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of ThingsCybersecurity, and 5G are changing the way we work, live, and communicate optimizing industries and consumers alike to become more efficient and sustainable.

In order to function, these technologies rely on powerful networks that support a more robust level of connectivity. Through Next Generation Networks (NGN), enhanced connectivity is now enabling technology innovation that is driving digital transformation across various sectors, old and new.

Built with fibre-optics, software-defined networking, and 5G wireless, the next generation of networks are optimized for advanced coverage to accommodate a growing ecosystem of mobile devices, cloud-based applications, and artificial intelligence.

Overall, NGN is the foundation required to develop and adopt the cutting edge technologies that will propel Canadian prosperity both socially and economically.

NGN is crucial for the digital transformation of Canada’s largest sectors, including agriculture, retail, transportation, healthcare, finance, education, municipal government, and smart cities. Without investing in NGN, it will not be possible to develop rural and northern network connectivity, an important step in building equal opportunity for all Canadians.

These new networks are important because every Canadian and Canadian enterprise, regardless of geography or demographics, will continue to be dependent on the digital economy requiring access to state-of-the-art, high-speed, next-generation networks.

Whether an enterprise is big or small, from traditional or tech sectors, they must develop processes for adopting new digital innovations to remain competitive.

CENGN, Canada’s Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks, has embarked on a national study to better understand the Canadian NGN ecosystem. The International Data Corporation (IDC), a world-renowned global market intelligence firm, was commissioned to complete this study.

This research was undertaken for a broad segment of stakeholders in the NGN ecosystem, including vendors, network operators, enterprise customers, and policymakers. The five chapters of this study are based on IDC’s ongoing Canadian and global research, preliminary interviews conducted for this study and extensive secondary sources that explore all facets of NGNs.

See for yourself the benefits and ecosystem of Next Generation Networks and how they’re transforming the way Canadians and enterprises function in today’s 21st century.
